Materials

Ingredients To Make Lupis:

  • 400 grams of glutinous rice
  • 150 grams of grated coconut that is a bit old steamed until cooked
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • enough banana leaves

Ingredients For Brown Sugar Sauce:

  • 250 grams finely combed brown sugar
  • 2 bunches of pandan leaves
  • 100 ml water

How to make brown sugar sauce:

  1. Prepare a medium-sized saucepan, add all the ingredients to make the brown sugar sauce and cook over high heat until all the ingredients are dissolved.

  2. Cook the brown sugar sauce until the texture thickens and once it is thick enough, strain the sauce and set aside.

How to make sticky rice lupis:

  1. Soak the glutinous rice for about two hours then drain.

  2. Clean the banana leaves if they look dirty and then cut them into 7 x 20 centimeters. Shape the banana leaf into a cone by rolling the leaf from one end to the center.

  3. Put about 3 tablespoons of white glutinous rice in a banana leaf and fold the leaf so that it wraps the rice in a triangular shape. You can use mattress twine or string from a banana gedebog to tie the package tightly. Repeat this step until all the rice is used up.

  4. Prepare a large saucepan, put all the wrapped lupis into the pan. Pour in the water until all the lupis are submerged then cook over medium heat until the lupis is cooked (about 3 to 4 hours)

  5. After the lupis is cooked, remove it and let it cool then open the banana leaf package one by one, set aside.

  6. Prepare a container or bowl, mix the steamed grated coconut and salt. Roll the lupis over the grated coconut until completely coated.

  7. Arrange the layer cake on a plate, flush with brown sugar sauce and serve.
